Introduction

Plant hormones function as integrators of extracellular signals, to mediate physiological and developmental adaptations throughout a plant's life cycle. They can be divided into growth stimulators comprising auxin, cytokinin, giberrelin and brassinosteroid, as well as growth inhibitors such as salicyclic acid, abscisic acid and ethylene.

Effects of Ethylene On Senescence

Ethylene has a myriad of effects on plant development, most notably in fruit ripening and senescence of flowers. Being gaseous, its hormonal effects also affect adjacent plants.

Lynk has created Floralyn™ and a few other potential leads to inhibit the production of ethylene in cut flowers. Our investigations have shown that a single treatment of water-soluble Floralyn™ (100 µM) was sufficient to prolong the life of certain cut flowers from 4-18 days.
The discovery of Floralyn™ is a result of rational drug design, based solely on Lynk's proprietary platform technologies. However it only exemplifies the vast potential of our technologies, so versatile that they can be applied in many other aspects in the postharvest arena, other segments of the agricultural industry and beyond.
Lynk currently seeks a partner to optimize and formulate Floralyn™ and other leads, into commercial flower food recipes that would substantially prolong the “green-life” of all cut flowers regardless of specie, or specifically for certain species.
